Who is eligible?
You are invited to join Guadalupe Credit Union if you live or work in Santa Fe, San Miguel, Mora, Rio Arriba, Torrance, or Taos County, or if you have a family member who belongs to GCU.
If you are age 3-17, check out our youth accounts for special benefits available exclusively for our younger members.
And if you are 18-25, ask for the account that was created just for you: Generation GCU, with extra perks such as “Do-Over” fee refunds up to 4 times per year, and a special discount on loans.
WHERE DO I START?
Start by opening a membership savings account at any GCU branch.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Photo ID (ITIN and Matricula accepted)
- If your ID shows an address outside of Santa Fe, San Miguel, Mora, Rio Arriba, Torrance, or Taos County, please also bring a pay stub or utility bill showing that you live or work in one of these counties.
- Cash or check to fund the account.
- You’ll need at least the $5 minimum balance plus the $1.00 once-in-a-lifetime membership fee. That’s it! That’s all you need to become a member-owner of the credit union with access to all of our great products and services, as well as full voting rights.
That’s right! Members have the power to elect your volunteer Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee to oversee the credit union and make decisions about how things are run. Elections are held at the Annual Meeting in the spring.
Every member gets one vote, regardless of how much money is in your account. (Primary members only—sorry, joint owners are not eligible to vote unless they have another account in their own name.)
Any member in good standing age 18 or over is eligible to run for a position on the Board of Directors or Supervisory Committee. The Nominating Committee is always interested in hearing from potential candidates—if you would like to learn more about these volunteer positions, please contact us!
